My current project- Engineering Marital Tracks and Traps

Advised by Wen Liu and Janet Chen-lan Kuo, my master's thesis examines how high-SES heterosexual male IT engineers in Taiwan imagine their marital lives and negotiate the gap between expectations and their real lives. While recent studies of marital behaviors established an important foundation of marriage barriers, which excludes low-SES people, and the trend of high-SES women might delay or forgo marriage with their increasing social status, high-SES men’s experiences are often treated as a reference group, lacking a more detailed investigation. I treat IT engineers as a strategically revealing case to interrogate how our marital expectations (including getting married, buying a car and a house, and having competitive children, etc. ) have impacted our lives. Please feel free to reach out if you're interested in my project!
